Fighting for Lower Cable Rates
The Consumer Choice Act of 2007 (HB 529 by Rep. Traviesa) provides cable consumers with more choices and lower prices, by introducing competition and eliminating unnecessary government regulation. After two years of engagement on this problem, Rep. Traviesa championed what many legislators are calling the most consumer-friendly bill of 2007, with a prospective $700 million in consumer savings.
Hurricane Safety and Preparation
Hurricane preparedness has a proven track record for protecting your home in hurricane season. Building upon the insurance package of January’s insurance Special Session, Rep. Traviesa returned to Tallahassee fighting for even more improvements. HB 7057 enacts a comprehensive reform of Florida’s hurricane mitigation programs, allowing you to take the necessary precautions to protect your home and save an average of 19% on your premiums. Clean Energy Independence
With the threat of global climate change and the development of new technologies, we need to build a safer and more responsible energy infrastructure. The Florida Clean Energy Act (HB 549 by Rep. Traviesa) reduces Florida’s reliance on foreign oil and allows greater investment in clean coal power plants. With safer and more cost-effective energy solutions, we provide a clean-energy future for our children.
Protecting Human Life
Following the landmark U.S. Supreme Court decision upholding the ban on late-term or partial-birth abortions, Rep. Traviesa fought tirelessly to pass the most comprehensive abortion legislation in the nation in order to protect women’s health and the lives of the unborn. The proposal passed the House but it did not prevail in the Senate. Rep. Traviesa will renew the fight next year for legislation that truly saves lives and protects women.
Safeguarding Florida’s Home Team Advantage
HB 1079 by Rep. Traviesa would have improved Florida’s current investment program in sports facilities and ensured that they did not receive undeserved funding from the State. Though the bill did not pass this year, Rep. Traviesa will continue fighting for any bill that creates stronger, more long-term commitments to protect Florida’s future and continue to strengthen Florida’s economic development.

Building Education Excellence
The future of Florida depends on the education that our kids receive today. As Vice Chair of the Schools and Learning Council, Rep. Traviesa continues building on the standards of education excellence in Florida’s school system. With $29.7 billion allocated to improving our school systems and $150 million in bonuses for our teachers, Rep. Traviesa and the Legislature prove their commitment to the successful future of our children and appreciation for the hard work of our teachers.
20072008 Fiscal Budget
Florida’s budget for 2006-2007 totals $71.95 billion, an increase of .9% over the previous year. This budget will successfully support our growing state while offering significant tax relief. All funds shown in billions.
